Personality Adjectives Practice for ESL Students

English students need to learn how to describe character and personality in English to be successful communicators, but this is no simple task for learners. Plan activities that are engaging and relevant to your students to make the content of these lessons more meaningful. Start with these fun vocabulary-building exercises. Introducing the Activity These intermediate-level exercises allow ESL students to practice conversational skills while focusing on broadening their character adjective vocabulary. Students will use questionnaires to develop their personal description vocabulary in addition to completing matching and fill-in-the-blank exercises that test their understanding. To begin your lesson, pair students up and ask them to give each other the questionnaire in Exercise 1. Have students check for the correctness of questionnaire answers together afterward. Then, either together or independently, have students complete Exercises 2 and 3. Personality Description Practice Exercise 1 Ask your partners the following yes or no questions about a friend or family member. Listen carefully to what they have to say and record their answers with any additional details or examples they provide. Are they usually in a good mood?Is it important to them that they always be successful?Do they notice your feelings?Do they often give presents or pay for things for you?Do they work hard?Do they become angry or annoyed if they have to wait for something or someone?Can you trust them with a secret?Are they a good listener?Do they keep their feelings to themself?Do they find it easy not to worry about things?Do they seem to think that everything will always turn out okay?Do they often change their opinion about things?Do they postpone things or procrastinate?Are they happy one moment and then sad the next?Do they generally like to be with and around people? This table gives adjectives to describe a person based on whether they do (positive adjectives) or do not (negative adjectives) possess a given quality. For example, a person who displays agreeableness is cooperative. Familiarize your students with these adjectives and provide them with authentic opportunities for practice using them. The No Child Left Behind Act Imperfect Legislation Essay

Through the years there have been many pushes for better education and each time new laws are implemented. Many of the old laws have been updated with improvements. These new laws are given a new name. The â€Å"No Child Left Behind† Act has given everyone a new approach to education while implementing many new stipulations and regulations. Schools have been classified as failing many times in the past and the government has made a goal to try and improve the education system in each instance. No Child Left Behind Act, when implemented, was a repeat of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (Background Analysis). Bush strived to use his position in the federal government for reform. He did however, try to â€Å"respect that education is a state and local responsibility,† (George W. Bush on Education). The No Child Left Behind Act was created because President George W. Bush felt to many of America’s neediest children were being left behind (Archived: Introduction: No Child Left Behind). The No Child Left Behind Act core is created from four â€Å"common-sense pillars.†n These pillars are accountability for results, an emphasis on doing what works based on scientific research, expanded parental options, and expanded local control and flexibility (Archived: Introduction: No Child Left Behind). The No Child Left Behind Act was signed into law on January 8th, 2002 (No Child Left Behind). There was eighty-four cosponsors, constructed of eighty-two Republicans, one Democrat and one Independent. Rodney Frelinghuysen, Kay Granger, John Mica, Todd Tiahrt, Henry Bonilla, Henry Brown, Marge Roukema, and James Traficant did not join until 2001. mark i dont. one of the officers starts hitting mark and puts one paper with something written in urdu on the table. officer sign here. mark i dont know what is written on the paper. officer you dont have any choice. mark gets scared and signs the paper. after signing, mark is asked to leave for the time being. they take his passport. mark feels happy about the fact that they are not going to kill him. he rushes to his apartment after his release. int. marks room he closes the doors and tries to clear all evidences. he cleanses his laptop and deletes every photograph. he burns all the pages of the book. after this incident, mark suffers a mental shock. he couldnt sleep properly. he thinks of escaping the country. he looked at his contract and found that he will be able to go to his country only if any of his family members falls sick. an idea emerged in his mind. he called up his sister. mark hey, machara i am in serious trouble here. i need your help. machara what has happened mark? tell me what i can do. mark you have to send me a fax that says my mother is seriously ill and she wants me to come home as soon as possible. machara whats the problem? mark please so as i say. i will tell you everything later. machara ll do that. next day int. marks hospital mark receives a fax copy and shows it to the public relationship officer, imran. int. imrans office mark sir, i have to go home. my mother is ill. imran (after checking the fax) no you are not allowed to go back. mark but rule book says that i can leave this country in case of family emergency. imran there is a criminal record against you. i cant allow you. mark please understand. imran i can help you only if you provide me with documents from the police that state you are innocent. mark ok sir. ill do that. mark leaves his office and goes to the police station. int. police station riyadh mark sir i wanted to know if there is any case against me. policeman it will take ten days to check the records. come after ten days. mark ten days? policeman yes, ten days. you may leave. he leaves for his home. int. marks room mark misses his family badly. it was really hard for him to spend ten more days. after ten days, mark wakes up early in the morning, prays to god and leaves for the police station. int. police station mark was perspiring in front of the policeman. mark sir, i wanted to know about my record. there were numerous case files piled up and the policeman was going through those one by one. policeman wait. let me check. mark. ya. after some time, he handed a piece of paper to mark. mark sir i dont understand that. policeman oh there is no record. mark what? no record? policeman yes. no record. you can go back. mark thank you sir. that was the happiest day of his life. he started dancing, called his wife and informed of his homecoming. he goes back to his room, starts packing his bags. he is finally going to leave this country. he booked air tickets and got back his passport. he starts turning the pages of his passport while kissing it.

In this case, the hand can shake at the point of the ruler, or just the perspective of the experimenter can create some error coefficient when measuring the height using a ruler. I included the uncertainty bars and the computer generated the best straight line and determined the gradient.  Now, the graph is repeated with maximum and minimum gradients based on the extremes of the first and last data point uncertainty bars. Conclusion and Evaluation In Figure 1.3, which is the first graph of our results, there seems to be a direct relationship between the increase of time and the increase of height in the experiment. The straight line that the computer generated shows an increase in both x and y axes which represent the height and the time, respectively.  I can conclude by saying that the experiment of releasing a ball at certain heights, that in this case they were from 10cm in multiples of 10 till reaching a meter, and measuring multiple times to get an average, that in this case was measuring 3 times per measure of height the time it took for the ball to stop bouncing completely and then making a average time, that the hypothesis of height being proportional to time was right and has been proved by analyzing the results and graphs. Time t and the height h were proportional to each other because in the result graph we find a straight line with a slope that proves that proportionality. This makes the experiment successful because the objective of proving the hypothesis was achieved.  After analyzing these factors, the answer to the question How does altering the height when releasing a bouncing rubber ball affect the time until its complete rest in the vertical sense or y-axis? is that as the height increases where the ball is released, it is going to take more time until its rest in the vertical sense, and in the other hand, as the height decreases, the ball is going to take less time to stop bouncing. Problems and Improvement Originally, the experiment was meant to measure the time until the ball reached complete rest (in both x and y axes) so that it could be easy to stop the chronometer and be more accurate. The problem was that the ball would roll on the floor, and as the floor is an even texture, the ball would stop completely taking a lot of time doing it, and sometimes the time it would take to stop in some cases would be very different to other cases because the ball rolls in different directions every time. Changing the experiment of measuring the time until the ball achieved complete rest to measuring time till the ball achieved complete rest in the vertical sense or the y-axis was the solution to overcome this problem. It created a minor problem though. The problem is that the eye cant really see when the ball stops bouncing completely because there are some bounces in the y-axis that cannot be seen by the human eye because they are really minor, making the stopping of the chronometer count a little subjective and decreasing the accuracy of the experiment.

The three institutions were the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the European Economic Community (EEC), and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). When the three merged, they formed the European Community or EC. On November 1, 1993, the 12 members of the European Community ratified the Treaty on European Union, or Maastricht Treaty. The twelve members were- Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. The countries of the Benelux Economic Union- Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg- continue to and in some ways as a single economic entity within the European Union. The EC became the policy-making body of the European Union. In 1994 Austria, Finland, and Sweden became members of the European Union. By 1997 more than a dozen countries had applied for European Union membership, but the European Union had only admitted the three listed above. The other countries that applied for membership include Turkey, Cyprus, Malta, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic. Of those countries, six are considered associate members of the European Union: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. Three other countries-Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania-are being considered for associate membership. Other potential European Union applicants include members of the European Free Trade Association. The European Union was expected to decide which counties it would open negotiations for full membership with by the end of 1997. The purpose of the European Union was to increase economic integration and strengthen cooperation among its member states. European citizenship was granted to citizens of each member state, under the Treaty on European Union. Customs and immigration agreements were enhanced to allow European citizens more freedom to live, work, and study in any of the member states, and border controls were also eased. The European Union also set a goal of establishing a single European currency, the Euro, by 1997; this date was later changed to 1999. It is proposed that full circulation of the Euro is to be in effect by the year 2002. At that time the individual states notes will no longer be valid. The European Union?s attempts to establish a single European currency have had some controversy. An example is, some member countries, such as Great Britain, have worried that a shared European currency would threaten their national identity and their government?s authority. On the other hand, some of the other European Union member countries have been struggling to meet the economic requirements for participating in a common currency. To meet the requirements, which include a budget deficit of no more than three percent of their gross domestic product, by the deadline of late 1997. To meet the requirements some countries have imposed budget cuts and new taxes. Some of the measures taken by these countries have faced some resistance. The people who will mainly benefit from the common currency are the European citizens. The overall benefit that the euro will bring is a stable economic environment that will lead to low inflation and low interest rates. There are three main areas that the member states will gain savings from, they include, reduced losses created by currency exchanges, lower costs created by better competition in the euro zone, and a more favorable trading and investment environment for local businesses. The reduction of losses due to the elimination of currency exchanges within the euro zone will produce almost a whole percentage point of annual European Union GDP every year. The use of a common currency will allow easier price comparisons in the member states. By eliminating the currency exchange risk, economic and monetary union will bring more business and trading potential to commercial companies, especially small and medium-sized businesses. Large European companies will have a reduction in a l ot of their costs, mainly in the processes of foreign exchange transactions. Consumers will benefit greatly from the common currency.
